Success Without Stress:The Art of Over Delivering
Tuesday, February 7th, 2012How to Under Promise and Over Deliver:
If you continuously find yourself working inside impossible deadlines, you might consider how you put yourself in that position and how to avoid this situation in the future.
Here is a formula for dramatically reducing your stress while expanding your experience of success!
When someone makes a request, take your time to consider this initial request, without immediately responding to PLEASE the requestor!!!
Get their agreement to respond at a later date after due consideration.
The request/proposal is simply the start of a negotiation.
Take a breath and check in with your stomach, shoulders, nervous system,
your team and whomever else will be affected by your agreement to produce this result.
If you are feeling tight, anxious ……imagine what parts of the process you can delegate,
what additional equipment or financing you might need.
Silently craft a counter offer to do a much smaller chunk of the request.
Imagine the feeling of having already done that service with the additional resources.
Shrink it down until it feels “do-able” and produces a sense of relief in your body.
Then esitmate how much time it might take to do the smaller chunk.
Finally, Increase your estimated time by 1/3…because things always take longer than you expect:)
After doing this process silently, voice your counter offer and getto do the
smaller amount in the shorrter time and then take a new look at the project.
Stay in continuous communication with everyone involved.
Continuously report interim results and collaboratively, creatively resolve
issues that arise.
Then over-deliver by producing the smaller promise much earlier than expected!!!
Celebrate the accomplishment with your team! Rinse and repeat!!!
